Dear Nanna and All,
I rec’d your lovely card and also the five Smakcer inside. Thanks a million for both of them. Well will start in by telling your that your chased me and caught up with us at her Brothers place. We stayed over there just lacking a day of being a week had a time, and had a nice time, and mother got to have a nice visit with him and his family. They sure talk funny as all of them expect her brother have that real Boston accent and believe me or not it is hard for a westerner to catch onto. We left Boston at 8 p.m. we were supposed to leave at 7:30 but as usual the train was late in leaving. We were due to Chicago at 6:15 but instead we were over an hour late. Now is time change from E.S. tome too C.S. time. Plus C. Daylite Time. Gosh what a mix up, and let the darned clock alone so a fellow would know where he was at the right time of day. Boy Oh! Boy it sure is a Pain in the neck if you as me. We leave out of here this eve at about 6:30 P.M. for her old home place in Robinson Illinois for a visit then take a bus back to Chicago and get the Train for St. Paul. Don’t know how long we will stop there then Minot N. Dakota. Then too that place called Spokane and to up and see Wauneta, Back to Spokane and into Portland for awhile. And will be able to tell you more when we get that far along. On our trip we stopped at the city of Jacksonville Fla. Then next stop at Richmond Va. A tour in each of the places we stopped at. The next Place was at Washington D.C. and what a tour we had there it was great. A Guide took us thru the U.S. Beaurea of Engraving & Printing well in other words its where they Print money from 1 dollar up to 100,000 dollar Bills. There are 18 Bills in one sheet and they stack them up in stacks of 500 sheets in a bundle. After printing they cut these Bills in reg. size that we use. The Guide said that they Printed only 29 million dollars a day 5 days a week. They then store them till they get a call from one of the Federal Reserve Banks which needs the money and it is send out from D.C. too that bank They also Print 3 million stamps a day 5 days a week. Gosh! It sure made me about half peeved cause they didn’t even offer mo a new Bill to carry back as a remembrance of visiting the place. I’ll say they are sure mighty stingy with there old or new money wouldn’t you? Well guess I better ring off for now. Love and Kisses to all of you folks say Hello to Bronz and Blondie for me. Bye now from Pop Nihart.
Greetings to all from Chicago.
Our tour in Washington D.C. was a 10 hour trip all through D.C. and China Town. & to Mt Vernon Virginia to the Tomb of the Unknown Soilder & witnessed the change of Guard, was very impressive. Returned to D.C. by a big boat on the Potomac River. Some were in a hurry to get back and return by the Bus. Don’t worry about the checks going to the Bro. Luther’s they are sending them on to Robinson. It was really something meeting my Bro. after 47 years. I was looking for someone about Marion size instead he is about the highth of you girls & weigh about 130 he was to meet us at the information booth. Some others were there too to meet people. Luther walked up to me and said are you Laura, what a surprise I had. I have a sweet sister-in-law. I like her very much & two dear nieces one 14. Joyce. Janice 7 & saw my nephew Donald, 24, he is married. Janice gave Pop & I a small picture of her. She took a great shine to her Uncle Harry. She said, now Uncle Harry you kiss my picture every day. She is a sweet little child. Irene my sister-in-law said, “(I don’t know your girls I have never seen them. But tell them for me they have a very sweet mother.)” They have a summer home at New Hampshire they took us up there. It has6 bedrooms each bed is made up with bedding. Place all furnished, dishes, silver, towels, dishtowels up all they need to take when they go is their clothes for the time there, buy groceries at New Hampshire’s a beautiful place among the pines, a big lake close by, have a big picnic table & benches outside the kitchen door under pines for eating when nice weather. Would of stayed longer but folks at Robinson are having a big reunion Sat the 4th of cousins I knew when there and those I have never seen, plus my Uncle and Aunt. We leave Chicago this eve. Get there at mid-night. Uncle Walt will meet us. What a terrible time to arrive, but is only Bus in Robinson. We will do our sight seeing when we return back here on our Hotel. Two floors about us, have seen some wonderful sights since we left Babe. New York is quite a big city. Those big tall bldg’s wonder why little Blondie Baby has taken to barking & charging the fence, perhaps she misses us & that is her way to express herself will be interesting to see how she reacts when we return.
Love & Kisses to all Mother and Pop.
P.S. Glad you got work honey, sorry you have so far to drive each day, do be careful.
