Dear Nanna and All,
Well we are back in Portland as you know by the talk with mother on the phone. Had a wonderful trip so far and the weather sure was with us just about all the way. On going thru Portland we went down to the Depot and had a nice chat with some of the old gang down there. While mother and I talked to George there was a call came for him from the hospital, and he said excuse me folks he rushed out got in his car and went to see his son. It seems like the boy had been having kidney trouble since he was around about 12 or 15 years old. Well they operated on him and put in what was called a mechanical kidney it worked a little bit and then quit. Well it seems like they have to get another kidney from a twin in order for it to function properly. And of course not having a twin the next closest to that his mother went through surgery and had on of her removed for the boy well anyway after we had made our trio up through Wash, ako, Canada and back the boy did not survive he passed away and he was only about 22 yrs old. Well it sure just about done George up. As the boys name was Tommy and George sure thought the world and all of him. Mother and I both talked to George after we cam back to Portland. The mother of the boy was Georges former wife. I don’t mother ever met her, but I knew her quite well, they also had a girl I don’t recall her name. But on account of the home life she decided to in training and became a NUN so that is in what she wanted to do and George told her that he would not stand in her way. She said yes I have fully made up my mind. Gee that sure was an awful to us both to learn about the sudden passing of Celesta’s hubby as they had only been married about 6 months. We were just sitting here In the motel and were listening tot eh news on the radio, and a Dr that use to treat Jo was out hunting ducks had a heart attack and passed very suddenly. Oh! Yes we were out to Davids and Jerry had a nice dinner (Tuesday evening) and nice visit with all of them. Little Danny you sure made a hit with him as he said he was going to marry you. He is 5 years old. Then I was sitting in a large chair and little Jan over to me and crowded between by knees and gave me a big kiss and said Grandpa I love you she will soon be 8 years old and David 9 years old had been taking lesson on the piano for about a year played one on the guitar and sang for us and he done very well. When mother sat down on the Davenport Little Danny was in her lap and Little David and Jan sat right up close one on each side of her. At the table they all waned to sit next to Grandma, well they settled with little Danny by her Davey said Grace and at the last he said Thank God for Grandpa & Grandma having dinner with us. I am not writing a separate note to Dales about cashing the check without your signature. Mother said to tell you to show your drivers license that will let them know that we are at the sam address and tell them that your are our daughter, keep the balance and we will straighten up with all our bills when we return. Well my Dear will bring this to a close. Oh! Yes we cooked our 1st meal in the motel this evening since we left home. So will say night nighty Oh! Shucks I don’t wear any well anyway I get in my P.J.’s for some much needed rest, going out tomorrow. Out on Friday over to Marions and Jo’s. Must tell you one more item The windows were open in the Motel and mother had to get up and open the door yet she said so she could really breathe in that pure fresh Oregon air.
Love and kisses from us both
