Tubing at Trapp Farm Park

This picture was taken in Dec of 1990. Anne was here visiting for a month. She had such a good time with our family.

This was her last night here. This is Trapp Farm Park which has a large hill. They provided giant inner tubes which were used to slide down the hill. Anne was determined to go down the hill on a tube. I had to put my foot down that this was just not possible. As you know she had many broken bones in her lifetime. I was so scared she would hurt herself and I would have to put her on the plane all broken up. I knew she would have loved it, but, I was so worried about her injuring her spine which always hurt.

This was the same trip that my dad called me at about 1 in the morning (mind you I was sound asleep and very confused) he said "Diane, where is Anne"? I told him "I put her on the plane". (The flight I got was non stop so there would be no confusion regarding transfer). He insisted he wasn't finding her anywhere! Finally, he found her, they had put her behind a post and he wasn't seeing her from where he was.

Later Anne told me the cleaning crew came on the plane to begin cleaning and found her still on the plane. Apparently the crew forgot to take her off the plane!
Before she left I made several loaves (almost a full suitcase) of bread. She froze it and enjoyed homemade bread for a long time. She really appreciated treats like that.

Grandma Lois

This is Grandma Lois. She was Anne's youngest sister. At least I was positive it was and then had a little doubt. Because of the "Lovingly, Mother" greeting I just figured it was her. I have no idea how old she might have been.

I thought about posting this on the 5th, 65 years after this picture was taken. Then I decided to just post tonight. This must have been a date night. It was about 9 months before they were married. What do you suppose the man in the background was thinking?

I have several of Aunt Anne's dresses. I will take pictures of what I have and post them.

Telegram

This was from Grandma Nihart. Babe was Edith, Aunt Mae is what my family called her. Not sure who Jo was, maybe my Uncle Dan will know.

Update 9-30. I was looking through some things deciding what I could add. I found a rememberance book from Harry Nihart's (married to Laura Kelchner my great grandmother) funeral. There is a note that says "Gift from Brother Marion Kelchner and wife, Jo. Portland Oregon. I believe that is who Jo is.

Anne and Bob

Anne and Robert Argyle Chamberlain were married Jun 2 1943. I love this picture of Anne she looks so pretty and very happy.

I saw these pictures tonight and decided that I would add them. Not sure if Bob was always so serious. I never knew him. He had heart problem and died Aug 3 1953. Aunt Anne related this story (based on how Brian and I remember it). He said to her, "Mother (yes that is what he called Anne) my mother came and sat by my bed last night (she had passed away, not sure when) it was just like she was really there". When Anne heard that she knew that he was going to die. He died the next day. I'm not sure she knew it would be so soon. They had been married a little over 10 years.

Anna Elizabeth Blackler

Anna Elizabeth Blackler was born August 26 1906 in Colorado Springs Colorado. Her parents were Harvey Storing Blackler and Laura Clara Kelchner. She had two sisters Lois Marie Blackler, my grandma, and Edith Mae Blackler. (The picture is the earliest and only picture I have of the girls with their parents. I believe Grandma Nihart made the girls clothing and most likely her own skirt and shirt, she was a professional seamstress.)

Her parents divorced when she was a young girl. She and her sisters ended up in an orphanage for time. She shared stories about that experience which I will share in a future post.

Ann died May 13th 2000, she lived to see the new century. She had many experiences during her long life that is what I would like to share about her. After Aunt Anne passed away I was able to go through her belongings. I looked for anything that had to do with family history. I found so many things. She never threw anything away. I will add them as I tell her story.

Emily had an idea

This is my great Aunt Anne. This is how I remember her as an older women or should I say mature. She was a hugh influence in my life. I loved her dearly and I miss her. She was progressive for her time. She was always into health food. Long before it was in style.

Last year I started scanning Aunt Anne history into the computer. As happens I got busy doing other things and that project fell by the way side. This year Emily was looking for a project and decided she would scan more of her history. She suggested we do a blog detailing her life. I wasn't so sure but the more I thought about it it made sense and I decided to do one. I will be sharing more about her and what I know of her life. I realize my girls don't know all that I remember and I want to share what I know in her memory.
